Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
This policy explains what happens to information when you use VIN Decoder.
VINs you enter
When you decode or compare a VIN, it is sent directly from your browser to NHTSA's public API to retrieve the result. We do not require an account and we do not store the VINs you look up on our own servers.
Local history
Your decode and compare history is saved using your browser's local storage, on your device only. It is never transmitted to us or to any third party, and there is no shared or community list. Clearing your browser data, using a different browser, or switching devices will not carry your history over. You can clear it at any time from the History page.
Analytics and cookies
We may use standard analytics (such as Google Analytics) to understand aggregate traffic, which may set cookies. You can block cookies in your browser settings.
Advertising
This site is supported by advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising via Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party cookies via aboutads.info.
Third-party data sources
Vehicle and recall data is retrieved from NHTSA. Your interaction with those services is governed by their own terms and privacy practices.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by the date above.
